Music

Music is an important aspect of the wedding, as it sets the mood.

Before the thought of choosing music for your wedding day overwhelms you, we have broken the day into steps.

Ultimately the choice of music depends on you and your partners taste and what you think would be appropriate for your day.

Ceremony

The amount of songs needed for the ceremony depends on your ceremony. As a guide there are 3 times when music is needed at the ceremony. A selection of songs for the prelude, when the guests are arriving. A second song for the processional, as you walk down the aisle. And a third song for the recessional, as you and your partner leave the ceremony. There are other moments such as the candle lighting which music may accompanying.

If having a formal-style wedding, classical pieces are perfect. Some of the traditional pieces are as follows:-

Processional

  • Wagner 'The Bridal March' from Lohengrin (Here Comes The Bride)
  • Mendelssohn 'Wedding March' from 'A Mid Summer Nights Dream'
  • Handel 'Arrival of the Queen of Sheba' March from Scipio
  • Beethoven 'Song of Joy' from Symphony No.9
  • Verdi 'Grand March' from Aida Parry 'Bridal March' traditional
  • Pachelbel 'Canon in D Minor'
  • Vivaldi 'Spring' from The Four Seasons
  • Handel 'Water Music'

Recessional

  • Clarke 'Trumpet Voluntary'
  • Handel 'Music for the Royal Fireworks'
  • Mendelssohn 'Sonata in A Major' or 'Wedding March' from 'A Mid Summer Nights Dream'
  • Purcell 'Alleluia', or 'Trumpet Overture' from The Indian Queen

Reception

A selection of songs are needed for the reception. Music at the reception can either be by a band or through a CD player.

If you have a CD player the caterers should look after this for you. Be sure to check, if not have a close friend operate it for you throughout the reception.

Traditional moments for songs are the Bridal Waltz, Father/Daughter Dance, Mother/Son Dance, Cake Cutting, Garter Toss and Bouquet Throwing.
