Wedding Programs

Wedding programs or Order of Service booklets are most popular when a religious ceremony is taking place and will list the Hymns (and the words), The Entrance of the Bride, Readings, The Marriage, Signing of the Register, The Address, The Benediction and The Recessional.

Wedding programs are sometimes used at civil ceremonies to introduce the bridal party and list a basic order of the service.

Those who are short on time or money may wish to forgo this option, but remember that a simple wedding program needn't use much time or money. Wedding programs are nice as a thoughtful gesture and souvenir for your guests.

Elements of a wedding program include the following:-

  • The cover - Includes the date and/or names of the couple. May include a picture, the location and time of the ceremony.
  • The order of events - If you have not listed your names, wedding date, location, and time on the front cover, consider listing that information on the inside just before the order of events. Then list what will happen during the ceremony, including processional music, greeting, readings, prayers, exchange of vows, ring ceremony, unity candle ceremony, pronouncement of marriage, recessional music, and any other ceremony music. Your list may not include all of these elements, and it may include some traditions not listed here. Be sure to list the events in the order they will occur.
  • The Bridal Party - A simple list of the names and roles of the bridal party. eg. Maid of Honour - Joan Smith

Some other elements your may wish to include in your programs are: a thank you message, directions to the reception.
